Great benefits for all!

One of the conditions of volunteering that often turns prospective volunteers away from the idea is the requirement that the donation of time cannot be compensated.  Unlike a cash donation, you can’t even claim your volunteer time on taxes.

That doesn’t mean you can’t benefit from your volunteering in other ways, though.

Volunteer Perks

Here at the National Road Heritage Foundation, we like to show our appreciation when we can.

First and foremost, at least twice a year, we try to hold gatherings for our volunteers, a few hours of socializing, free food, and recognition of our volunteers and everything you have done for us that is exclusively for our volunteers.

Then there are the little side perks.  Some of them include…

• Of course you are welcome to visit any time the museum is open, and we won’t ask you for a donation even if you are off duty (you can still give one if you want).
• You have the opportunity to help out at and enjoy programs the general public may need to pay for.
• Free coffee!  (Ok, its a variety of K-Cups and a Keurig in the break room, but that still counts)
• Our leadership often seeks small ways to show appreciation ranging from simple thank you’s to free snacks!
• Learning and experiencing new things and meeting new, interesting visitors.
• The satisfaction that comes from a guest’s expression when they learn something that changes their understanding of the past!

Being a volunteer at our museums also comes with the satisfaction of knowing that you are having an impact on our community and our region.

Our exhibits draw visitors to the Boonsboro area, or keep them in town longer.  Combining that with our hosting the Boonsboro Visitor Center, this helps to encourage guests to visit downtown shops and restaurants, helping Boonsboro’s town economy.  We also encourage visits to other area museums and attractions, helping those organizations to grow.  We provide educational and cultural recreation for families to bond over, and as our organization grows we will be able to spread these benefits to other towns along the Historic National Road.

Without people like you volunteering your time, our area would lose these benefits.   The small act of giving your time has a great impact, and for that we thank you!
