As a volunteer of the National Road Heritage Foundation, you represent us all!
Visitors will look to you for their idea of who we are and what we are all about.
(No pressure, right? But don’t worry, we trust you!)
A few things to remember as a volunteer.
The mission statement of our organization is the guiding force in what we do. Understanding it helps you to be a better advocate for our goals and priorities.
The mission of the National Road Heritage Foundation is as follows:
“The National Road Heritage Foundation (NRHF) is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization dedicated to raising awareness, appreciation and respect for the intrinsic qualities of the Historic National Road. The Foundation encourages visitors to experience the recreational, cultural and educational opportunities associated with the towns and cities connected by the Nation’s first publicly funded intercontinental highway.”
We don’t expect to make rules for your time outside of your service to us, and your advocacy and organizational involvement with other groups is usually none of our business.
People, however, may recognize you and identify you with the Foundation or museums, and we hope that there will never be a case for conduct by one of our volunteers to cause negative consequences for our organization.

We do this by promoting other history organizations in the area and along the National Road. We can have a far greater impact working together than we could all have working independently.
In times when history is under fire and organizations are accused of undue bias, we, also, must make sure our focus remains on truthfulness, fact, and transparency. Our exhibits include topics which may be hard to discuss with some individuals, however it is important we tell those stories and preserve them for future generations.
We opened the museums in December 2024, and as we grow, there are several focuses we have in the near future and long-term:
