Greet them, and inquire as to what brings them to the National Road Museum
Ask for their zip code and how they heard about the museum. They don’t have to provide it but it helps us better understand our visitors.
Document their answers on the tally sheet, if any.
Also document the number of people in their group whether they provide answers or not.
If they are only seeking visitor information,
Direct them to the Visitor Center and offer to answer questions.
Suggest that they consider visiting the museums while they are here.
If the visitor is interested in visiting the museums, thank them for coming and accept their admission.
Inform the guest that admission is by suggested donation, and that while we have suggested amounts they may give whatever amount they wish.
Ask how much the visitor(s) would like to contribute for their admission
Also ask if they would like to sign up for our mailing list.
Enter the total donation into the register and then add each member of the party individually as well so that each guest is tracked.
Direct the visitors toward the entrance to the exhibit hall. If a docent is nearby, introduce them.
If the Trolley Station has staff, provide guests with a “transfer ticket.”
DOCENT PRIORITIES
Greet each guest who enters the exhibits. If there are no other guests, stay near the entrance and introduce new arrivals to the exhibits.
Invite them to view the presentation in the theater.
Offer to answer any questions that you can.
Be sure to remain visible during their tour so that guests know you are present and don’t need to seek you out.
If no volunteers are assigned to the Trolley Station Museum, offer to take groups to that building if they would like to tour that museum as well, it is included in admission
When visitors leave, thank them and invite them to return.
If there is no Trolley Station docent, offer to escort guests through that museum.
Trolley station is much the same, if you are stationed there for the shift:
If visitors walk in to the trolley station first, they should be asked to begin their tour at the National Road Museum, but are welcomed to make a suggested cash admission to the donation jar
If the latter, provide with a “Fare Receipt” so that NRM greeter knows they have donated.
