BOONSBORO, MD – The National Road Heritage Foundation is looking for individuals with diverse backgrounds and professional experience to serve on its Board of Directors. The opportunity is perfect for those who have a genuine interest in historic roads, transportation history, and historic preservation.
The National Road Heritage Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization that operates the Washington County Blue Ridge Trolley Station Museum and is currently in the final phases of developing the first museum in Maryland dedicated to the Historic National Road. The NRHF promotes the communities, and organizations located along the Maryland portion of the Historic National Road Scenic Byway through its Maryland National Road Wayside Panel Trail. A champion of historic preservation, the organization partners with others to preserve the history and culture of America’s first federally funded highway and western Maryland’s electric railway.
Through strategic and organizational planning, board members will guide the organization as it continues to open the National Road Museum. Members will also participate in fundraising and resource development to support the organization’s programs and services that serve residents and visitors. The board will continue to enhance the organization’s public image as a resource for historic roads and transportation history.
NRHF Vice President Richard Keesecker said, “It is an exciting time to be a part of the organization with a new website currently under development and the start of electrical wiring and lighting work at the museum. The NRHF has successfully raised over $1.2 million in funding and completed six of the seven project phases, including restoration of the museum building and full design of exhibits.”
Interested applicants should email a letter of interest and summary of qualifications to Richard Keesecker at rknationalroadmuseum@gmail.com
