Current Volunteers

Volunteer
We invite you to be part of our growing History organization in Maryland.

Our museums and programs are driven by our volunteers.
Whether you are looking to help out once a week, once a month, or only a couple of times a year, we appreciate your gift of time.
No experience or knowledge is needed, training and resources are provided.
How can you help?
We are continually recruiting volunteers to fill the following roles. Have questions? Feel free to contact us!
Museum Greeters
Stationed at the front desk, greeters welcome visitors to our museums, host the town Visitor Center, and handle admissions and gift shop sales for both of our museums.
Museum Docents
Stationed among the exhibits, Docents help to enhance visitor's experience by adding a friendly face to their tour, answering questions to the best of their ability, and keep museum guests and exhibits safe.
Docents can choose to be assigned to the National Road Museum, Trolley Station Museum, or both.
Committee Members
From fundraising to special events, committees come up with ideas, plans, and proposals for programs and projects, and then make the magic happen to see those plans through. Some committees also help propose new policies and practices for the Board of Directors to consider.
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors bring a variety of experiences and skills to the management of the organization. These volunteers meet to set the guidelines and make decisions regarding the activities and direction of our organization. We encourage our Board to be active in our other activities.
Interpretive Trail Panel Program
Our organization is responsible for over 50 historical information panels between Baltimore and Grantsville - a 170-mile stretch of the State of Maryland!
We rely on volunteers to keep these panels clean, repaint frames when needed, and report damage when a panel needs replaced.
Special Programs
As we grow, so will our program offerings! These will include special tours, evening educational programs for adults, special events, and much more.
When these events take place, additional volunteers to help with tasks can ease the burden on our regularly scheduled volunteers. Tasks can include setup, cleanup, handing out brochures or giveaways, leading special activities, directing traffic or assisting with directions to parking, etc.
More to come!
The more we grow, the farther our reach will spread across the State of Maryland. Who knows what opportunities will arise!
