Unlike the Greeter role, docents are generally not expected to keep records of our visitors or handle monetary transactions.
Instead, Docents serve a variety of other duties ranging from educator to security.
By definition, the word docent refers to an educator: one who guides educational tours. In some parts of the world the term is even used in place of what we would call an Associate Professor at a university. Fortunately here in a museum atmosphere the role doesn’t require years of study – it only requires an interest in the history and sharing that history with others.
Our docents occupy the exhibit hall, remaining available at all times for our visitors to ask questions.
As a docent, you will also monitor the exhibits, ensure everything is working correctly and safe for our visitors You also keep an eye on the visitors and ensure that our exhibits are not being mistreated.
