A part of the NRHF mission involves encouraging tourists to experience the recreational, cultural, and educational opportunities found along the National Road. What better way to do that for our local community than hosting the town’s official Visitor Center in our building?
So that is exactly what we did!
Visitors to the town and new residents alike are encouraged to visit while we are open and learn more about what this area has to offer.
Located between our front desk and gift shop area, the Boonsboro Visitor Center consists of a screen advertising upcoming events and local places to go, and a large brochure rack containing pamphlets and resources related to attractions, businesses, dining, and lodging in the area and elsewhere along the National Road.

The Visitor Center when first opened
This Visitor Center is a partnership between our museum and the Town of Boonsboro Economic Development Commission – the town committee tasked with fostering economic growth and stability within the town limits.
The equipment for the Visitor Center has been funded by the EDC, and they assist in recruiting volunteers to host the museum. Part of the project to install the Visitor Center was also funded by the Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area.
